Dubai South Masterplan

CLIENT: dubai South

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

PROJECT SIZE: 670 Hectares (neighborhood master plan)

Project Role: One of two lead architectural Designers

The masterplan for the village neighborhood of Dubai South, part of the Al Mahkthoum airport city in Dubai, UAE was built from the idea that a paradigm shift in community development was needed in Dubai. While the city is on the map as a world hub of business, much of the mega-development that has grown out of this success stuggles to weave into a successful communal fabric. Enter Dubai South.

Focusing on a framework of design guidelines based around the derivatives of happiness in urban development, the masterplanning for Dubai South represented a new lens with which to plan communities. Social connectivity, health and well-being, inclusiveness, sustainability and beauty became more than abstract principles, they are guiding principles for this project. Perhaps the greatest success of this project and his planning and design mindset has been its affect on subsequent projects in the UAE and elsewhere.
