First Year Student Housing

CLIENT: University of colorado at denver

Location: denver, co

PROJECT SIZE: 181,000 sf

Project Role: lead project Designer

The first year student housing project at CU Denver represents and exciting inflection point for life on campus and campus culture as a whole. Introducing on-campus student housing for the first time on campus, this project will have direct impacts on student academic experience, success, retention and their lifelong association with CU Denver. The project’s location, at the heart of CU Denver’s campus neighborhood also means that this facility will have an outsized impact on the broader fabric of campus life, delivering a 24-hour population to what is now a commuter campus as well as introducing community-building and student-centric co-curricular experiences for all campus users through integrated dining and student services components of the project.

Located prominently along Larimer Street between 11th and 12th Streets, the First Year Housing project will play an important role in reinforcing the connection between campus life and downtown Denver along the Larimer corridor. At 11th Street, this project creates a neighborhood edge for CU Denver and will have a key frontage on the central green of the entire Auraria Campus at the Tivoli Quad. Internal to the CU neighborhood, the First Year Housing project will introduce strong activation along 12th Street that has strong synergies to the new Student Wellness Center and the Student Commons Building where it creates a programatic bridge of student academic support with the Learning Commons.
